Papplewick Pumping Station Steampunk Weekend

The more Steampunk events I attend the more I get to recognise certain faces and begin conversations with people. When chatting to them I often ask them what their favourites Steampunk events are and many seem to include the Papplewick Pumping Station Steampunk Weekend in their answer. As such I decided to include it on my list of new events to attend in 2024.

Papplewick Pumping Station Steampunk Weekend July 2024

In 2024 the Papplewick Pumping Station Steampunk Weekend took place on 13th & 14th July. Originally I thought I would only attend on Saturday 13th July. From memory the cost of entry for an adult was about £15.00 on the day. You can save a tiny amount buying tickets online. The entry however gets you an annual pass which you can use as often as you like, including for special events like this Steampunk Weekend. Since I would be able to get in free on the Sunday I decided to actually visit both days once I checked the weather forecast.

Before arriving I had hoped to also get some photographs of the amazing Victorian engineering on show. However once I arrived the interior of the main pumping station was rather crowded and lighting not ideal. Also there was lots of scaffolding on the outside so in the end I decided to just concentrate on taking portraits of people within the grounds.

There was a small lake you could walk, a cafe and an area set aside for some performances. Musical performances included Alice Strange on the Saturday and Professor Elemental on the Sunday. There were also performaces from magicians among others I happened to see.

Being that Papplewick Pumping Station is located just to the North of Nottingham I met a number of familiar faces at the weekend who I had previously met or photographed at the Newark Steampunk Weekend earlier in the year. Steampunk fashion is generally considered to be from the Victorian times but people like to add different twists to their costumes. I could not help but notice costumes with various vibes including Peaky Blinders, Indian, Goth and BDSM as the small selection of images in the gallery below will illustrate.

This is only a small selection of the images I took over the weekend. You can find more by visitin my Facebook gallery for the event or by finding me on Instagram.
