Sheringham 1940s Weekend 2025

One of my favourite 1940s weekends to attend in the Sheringham 1940s weekend which usually takes place in September. The weekend is known by a number of different names, including the North Norfolk Railway 1940s Weekend and also the ‘Steam Back To The Forties’ weekend. Indeed the weekend has attractions in many of the stops along the line of the North Norfolk Railway but Sheringham and Holt seem to be where the bulk of the action takes place. I usually refer to it as the Sheringham 1940s Weekend simply because that’s the term that seems to get the most Google searches!

Sheringham 1940s Weekend Dates & Tickets

The 2025 event took place over the weekend of 20th and 21st September. I only attended on the Saturday this year. The event is free if you just want to stroll around Sheringham and soak up the atmosphere. You can also catch a vintage bus to Holt for free though a donation towards the upkeep of these vintage buses is always welcome. There are costs to some aspects of the weekend though. One cost is to access the field in Holt where there are a number of live acts performing as well as lots of stall holders that are either selling 1940s related items like clothing and accessories or mobile food vendors meeting the needs of visitors who attend.

By far the biggest cost though is for a day rover ticket to travel on the trains. For an adult this was £25.00 with slightly lower prices for children. For a family of 4 though the total cost would have been significant. I decided not to buy a train ticket for this year. In past years you were able to just buy a cheaper ticket just to access the train platform. This would allow you to take some photos of the trains, the people and the lovely historic signs at the station (which could make good backgrounds to some portraits). Unfortunately they no longer sell a platform access only ticket.

Below are just a few of the images that I took on the Saturday. For more example you can visit my Facebook gallery for the event.

So do I plan to attend the Sheringham 1940s Weekend in 2026? The dates have already been announced as 18th-20th September 2026. I will probably leave the decision about Sheringham until much nearer the time. The only two 1940s events that I have already pencilled in are:

The KWVR Haworth 1940s Weekend 16-17 May.

The Papplewick Pumping Station 1940s Weekend 17-18 October.
